FairWind Enters Australian Market
FairWind, a global wind turbine installation and service provider, has entered the Australian market – acquiring a construction license in December 2019 and beginning their first project at Warradarge wind farm.
FairWind will install 51 Vestas V136 wind turbine generators at the location.
“Australia’s wind energy market is set to expand rapidly in the next two to three years, which is why it was critical that FairWind has a presence there now. We are confident that if we do a quality job for our client, we can establish a solid installation pipeline as part of this wind energy boom,” said Maciej Saczuk, Key Account Manager.
An experienced core team of technicians and HSE personnel was sent from Europe in 2019, and they have already finished installation of the very first wind turbines at Warradarge.
The wind farm is a 180MW project being developed by Bright Energy Investments (BEI) in Western Australia’s mid-west region.
“The site for the Warradarge wind farm, near the town of Eneabba, has been praised by both Vestas and state energy minister Bill Johnston for its ‘abundant’ wind resource.
“Once complete, it is expected to supply enough energy to power 148,500 West Australian homes,” reported RenewEconomy.
The establishment of a presence in Australia can be a big benefit for FairWind’s European technicians, giving some of them the opportunity to rotate there when seasonal weather decreases the number of projects available in Europe during the winter.
The project offers a number of unique challenges. Located three hours from the city of Perth, temperatures there regularly go over 40 degrees Celsius. Technicians must also pay attention to local fauna that can be close to the site or run across roads, such as kangaroos and even snakes.
However, FairWind has a track record of working in new markets and difficult conditions, already having worked in over 40 countries and now on 6 continents.
For example, FairWind leveraged their global network to help with the logistical challenges of running a project on a new continent, such as coordinating transportation and tools through their Travel department and Warehouse in Szczecin, Poland.
“It would be really nice for us to continue on this path in Australia and give more of our technicians the opportunity to work here,” said Ioan Petre, Project Manager.
“I would like to see more FairWind boots on the ground in Australia.”
